Hardy Muskie Inc. Members met at 5:00 am at Speelyai Bay, where they Registered and exchanged warm handshakes all around, as many had met up before. Oregon was well represented, too: Bob M. came all the way from Sun River, near Bend, Ed W. from Damascus, Pete from Bingen and Tom O. from Gresham. Also welcomed was Chapter 60 member Nate G. The Stanwood crowd drove all the way down, too, being the Muskie Nuts that they are: Bryant, Oliver & newcomer Scott.

19 anglers in all, took off with a wild shotgun start at 6:00 a.m. at the sound of the gun and headed out into the warm summer morning, but grateful for the cloud cover that kept the heat at bay.

It stayed cloudy for most of the day, then burnt off around noon. Water temps were in the 68-71 degree range.

Fish were active: 7 were caught and successfully released in the Tournament.

Mike F. won, with two tiger muskies: a 34 incher and a 32.5 incher. Joe F. took 2nd place with his FIRST Tiger Muskie, a long 39 incher. 3rd place went to Ed W., with a nice 37.5 incher.. BIG FISH Optional bet went to Ed because Joe did not ante up for the option. Worked out well for Ed! But Joe was VERY happy with a Tiger Muskie under his belt after some previous, serious and dedicated time on water.

Finishing the field of netted esox were Mike H. with an early morning 34 incher, quickly followed by boat-mate Perry with a 33”. Bob M. landed a feisty 31 incher, too.

The day ended with the Winning Money Awards being disbursed at the Lone Fir Campsite, under the welcomed shade of big trees and followed by a full-course potluck. Many anglers stayed overnight for further camaraderie and campsite tall tales: Good times.
